No problems for SAP users in the tariff trade war? SAP and DSAG believe that companies and their SAP systems worldwide are well prepared as the tariff chaos increases.
According to Dr. Philipp Herzig, Chief Technology Officer at SAP, „thousands of colleagues in the global organization are working on implementing the regulatory measures from all over the world.“
To this end, they are „naturally in contact with regulators and authorities.“

During a joint press conference in April 2025 organised by DSAG – German-speaking SAP User Group /DSAG – Herzig explained that „the regulatory measures around the world will be made available to customers promptly as business content for the operational systems in S/4 as part of their maintenance obligations.“
From the perspective of the customer companies, Sebastian Westphal, who was Chief Technology Officer at DSAG in April 2025, added that tariffs and tariff increases „cannot be answered in a blanket manner with a single entry in a field on the SAP interface.“
Implementation within the company has a lot to do with supply chains, production processes, and the semi-finished materials to be processed.
„I believe all DSAG companies with business relationships in the United States have always maintained tariffs in their system anyway,“ Westphal continued.
„Tariffs are more likely to be increased than additionally levied, and therefore most companies are prepared accordingly. Where the data is stored in SAP, where it is also part of the production processes and the supply chain, it can be adjusted relatively easily.“
He is therefore „very optimistic“ that companies will not be caught off guard by the tariffs. „I think the more important question is how sustainable such a decision is and whether it will be suspended or lifted after three days,“ Westphal continued – something that has, of course, already happened many times since April 2025.
