Cycletour Berlin – Berlinchen – Berlin

Are you inspired traveling to places of the smartest people around the world?

Emanuel Lasker was the world champion in chess for 27 years, from 1894 to 1921. A cycle path connects his hometown of Berlinek (Berlinchen = Tiny Berlin) with Berlin.

Pack for three nights.

Don’t forget your ID; the Polish army checks at the border. Prepared lunches and a thermos of hot tea might be essential.

To shorten the route, it’s smart to start at the Strausberg Nord S-Bahn station.

Moryń is ideal for an overnight stay and a toe’s dip in the lake.

To shorten the route, it’s smart to start at the Strausberg Nord S-Bahn station.

From Strausberg, pass the airport Southbound, through Klosterdorf, down into the Oderbruch region. Turn left at the Alte Oder river in Wriezen and continue along the old railway line towards Bienenwerder.

Cross the bridge into Poland. Entry and return is not possible without proper documentation!

From Siekierki, follow cycle route 20, continuing along the former railway line in wide arcs past Moryń and Bad Schönfließ, through Myślibórz, to Berlinek.

Moryń is ideal for an overnight stay and a toe’s dip in the lake. The Hotel Villa Moryń is definitely recommended.

To shorten the return trip, I left the bike path and cycled via Chojna, across the old Cold War airfield, and through the hills, forests, and back roads to Schwedt. From there on, a regional train is more than happy to take you baack to Berlin. Regionalbahn departs every two hours…

Don’t forget your sandwiches and have fun! :)
