SAP and OneLake: Datalakehouse Connector

Following Snowflake, Databricks, and Google, a collaboration with Microsoft enables SAP customers to utilize their data in Microsoft OneLake. According to SAP, “SAP Business Data Cloud Connect for Microsoft Fabric” will be generally available in the third quarter of 2026.

From then on, secure and fast access to SAP data will be possible without the delays caused by data replication.

SAP calls this concept “Zero Copy.”

Based on bidirectional, copy-free data exchange between SAP Business Data Cloud and Microsoft Fabric, customers can build processes that previously required moving, managing, and copying data.

According to SAP, data is integrated “seamlessly” into Microsoft OneLake, the AI-enabled datalake of Microsoft Fabric.

Conversely, datasets released from Microsoft OneLake are also available in SAP BDC and enhance the applications.

SAP promises: “By leveraging Fabric’s data engineering, data warehousing, and Power BI capabilities, companies can effectively integrate SAP data into their existing ecosystem, creating a unified foundation for their enterprise data.”

The OneLake integration with Microsoft AI Foundry will also help customers use their SAP data to build AI applications.

Another point SAP make – “because OneLake is integrated with Microsoft 365 millions of users can securely access their SAP data through the products they use every day, such as Excel and Teams.”
